Brown Eye Liner Collection (with swatches!)

Since early this Spring I have become obsessed with using brown eye liner. Before then I basically thought that it was a lesser version of black eye liner but I’d seen multiple YouTubers absolutely rocking it and decided to give it a go myself. It’s been four months since then and I can safely say I’ve become a brown eye liner addict.

I no longer have to battle with cat eyes, smearing, or touch ups since sporting brown liner and have even gotten on the change in liner! One of my best friends said it gave me a softer look which for the day-to-day is the look I aim for. But before I continue to rave about brown liner I must state the obvious, not all liners are created equal. So without further ado, here are the ones that I have collected over the last four months and my honest opinion on each.

From left to right: Smashbox, Rimmel, ColourPop, Maybelline

Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Liner – Good stay power and easily blendable. I’ve heard, however, that this liner runs out quickly and this may be because it sharpens itself every time you twist the cap on completely.

Rimmel Exaggerate Smoke N’Shine – Smooth formula but zero staying power and rubs off very easily.

Colourpop Gel Liner in Over Board – Has AMAZING stay power and is essentially waterproof. Dries very quickly though so if you want to smudge it out you need to work VERY quickly.

Maybelline Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil – More of a heavy, darker formula with good staying power. A little too dark for my everyday look though because it’s a little more difficult to blend out.
