October Favorites

Another month come and gone! October was lovely, not as busy as September which was really nice and it definitely cooled down here on the East Coast so running was significantly more enjoyable. Here are the list of things I’ve been loving this past month. Enjoy and have an incredible Halloween weekend!

How to Get Away with Murder – Super addicting crime/drama/mystery series. Each episode deals with a different courtroom case that lawyer and law professor Annelise Keating, with the help of a select group of her students, are hired for while over the course of the entire season little bits of light are shed on one overarching mystery.

Toasted Graham latte – I think I mentioned this in my September Favorites as well but oh my goodness is this thing good. I’ve successfully spread the word of its deliciousness and it has quickly become a favorite among my coworkers and friends. I get mine with skim milk but I’m sure it tastes good no matter how they make it.

Aviary – My first photo app! This app lets you retouch photos in ways that your phone and Instagram cannot. And it’s not just the filters, the ability to blur, focus, whiten and manipulate colors are what really got me hooked.

Urban Jungle Nail Polish by Essie – New favorite nail polish! If Chin Chilly,Sand Tropez, and Marshmallow had a baby, this is what it would look like. It’s a mix of taupe, sand and is very light but absolutely beautiful and would look good on anyone.

Nars Eye Shadow Duo in Isolde – Is this duo too expensive? For $35 I’d say yes. But gosh these colors are gorgeous. They are the exact colors I think of when I think Fall and putting them together like this makes them the perfect grab and go combo.

Coach Backpack – I think since I bought this backpack at Second Time Around I’ve used another bag maybe once? It’s just so easy to carry around, I mean you really aren’t technically carrying anything cause you just strap up and go! My shoulders are thanking me for this purchase and I definitely see myself wearing it for years to come.

Silver Birch and Winter Glow Yankee Candles – I did a whole post on these guys but quickly, they’re not sweet and sugary like most Fall candles, they’re very much the woodsy scents of Fall which are the ones I love 🙂

Weekly Tid Bits

The past few days have been absolutely jam packed and I’m currently running on an empty tank, but the good news is it’s Thursday which means I only have to wake up early one more time before sleeping in big time on Saturday. Here are a few of the things that I’ve been up to this past week:

Clinique Goodie Bag: First Impressions

Clinique was the first ever makeup brand that I was introduced to and for the large majority of my life, was the only makeup brand that I had ever heard of. This was due to the fact that my mom was dedicated shopper of theirs and repeatedly purchased her two products from their line: their Happy perfume and their Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. And on the the occasions when she would make these purchases, she almost always spent enough to receive their gift with purchase in the form of a goodie bag full samples. This is where I came in. My mom doesn’t really wear makeup so all of the fun stuff (aka bright red lipsticks and blue shimmery eye shadows) would go to me and my sister. And with small exceptions (I usually don’t go for the blue eyes shadows now and actually know what the skincare items are for) this tradition of my mom giving my sister and I these Clinique goodie bags has continued throughout my entire life. Here’s the most recent bag that my mom received and the items that I took home for myself:

  • Long Last Soft Matte Lipstick in Crimson – Very pretty red bordering pink. The texture is just that, soft and not drying at all but definitely matte. I’ll have to see how this lasts on my lips.

  • All About the Shadow Quad in Autumn Days – Very creamy texture and the two shimmer colors (Starstruck and Amber) are super pigmented. Unfortunately the two matte browns fall short and are not very pigmented at all, even though they look like it in the photo.
  • Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion – My go-to facial moisturizer in the colder months, love this stuff. Super moisturizing but not greasy at all. Sinks in super quickly too.
  • High Impact Mascara in Black – Haven’t tried this guy out yet so I’ll have to report back!

Side Note: There are obviously two couple of items I didn’t take with me but that’s simply because they are oil based and oil based products do not work well with my skin!

Gearing Up for Cold Runs

As the weather gets colder here in New England, the layers start to pile on. And while I am the first one to admit that layering is my favorite part of fashion, when I’m running, it’s kinda the last thing I want to do. So over the past few years, I have discovered which gear not only keeps me warm but also doesn’t weigh me down and helps me avoid unnecessary layering during long, freezing cold runs. Here are the pieces that I regularly gear up with to stay warm during the frigid cold.

Product Review: Boscia Luminizing Black Mask

Having been a lover of peel-off face masks since I was about 12 years old, I had been wanting to try the Boscia Luminizing Black Mask that had been receiving very mixed reviews for some time. So this weekend when I popped into Sephora, I got my hands on a small sample of the stuff and proceeded to try it out for myself that night.

mask

Pros

  • Easy to apply and move around on face
  • Peels off relatively easily and pain free if enough is applied
  • Left my pores looking smaller with less gunk in them
  • Did not irritate my skin or eyes (I did not put this on my undereyes though cause I had heard that it can make your eyes sting if you put it too close to them)

Cons

  • Does not completely come off in one peel so I needed to wash off the rest with water
  • You need a lot to make sure the layer is thick enough to be peeled off easily
  • Takes a long time to dry
  • Not very drastic results

Overall this was a good peel and I would repurchase the full size, but this might simply be because I currently do not have any peel masks at home. It also comes at a slightly hefty price of $34 which for someone who is used to drug store prices seems a little steep. I liked it but did not love it so if you have any other pore cleaning face peel masks that you’d recommend, please let me know!
