Am I the only one who gets annoyed when I’m told that my face shape is “round”? I mean, since when has the adjective “round” ever been used as a compliment? You wouldn’t exactly say to a friend “you’re looking round” unless you wanted to get into a passive aggressive friend fight so why is it okay for someone to say the same thing about your face? Let’s go ahead and call it “circular.” Much better.
Moving on, I have always had a circular face shape and not because I went to town on the cookie jar, but because that’s simply the way the bones in my face like to sit. And for the most part, I really like having this face shape. There are some absolutely gorgeous women out there with circular face shapes: Mila Kunis, Selena Gomez, Niomi Smart, & Ginnifer Goodwin just to name a few. And over the years I’ve discovered a couple of makeup tips and tricks that really compliment a more circular face. Here are a few:
1. Lengthening Brow Arch – Eyebrow arches that are too short can give the face an even wider appearance so lengthening the ends of the brows not only brings attention to the eyes but slims out the face.
2. Winged Liner – Nine times out of ten I’m wearing a winged look. Similar to lengthening the eyebrow arch, a winged liner gives the appearance of larger eyes that may otherwise appear smaller on a circular face.
3. No Bottom Liner – If you don’t bottom line your lashes or simply don’t go to inner corner of the eye, your eyes will appear more open. Lining all around the eye closes them off and may make them appear smaller which may in turn make the face seem larger.
4. Contour – I mean do I need to explain this one? You don’t even have to contour your cheek bones if that’s not your jam. Contouring under the chin and the edge of the jaw line will sharpen up your jaw to give it less of a circular appearance.
